Investor questions
Compare private equity funds by strategy, control rights, company size, sector and vintage. Review the manager's value-creation plan, entry valuation, use of leverage, realised exits, loss record and the basis of current portfolio marks.
Verify which team members sourced, led and exited prior investments. Examine governance involvement, operating resources, follow-on decisions, write-offs, fund pacing, succession and whether prior outcomes are attributable to the current team and strategy.
Growth equity usually takes minority or influential positions in expanding companies, while buyout funds generally acquire control and may use acquisition debt. The governance rights, leverage risk, value-creation plan and exit routes therefore differ materially.
Read net IRR alongside DPI, TVPI and the fund vintage. Check how much value has been distributed, how much remains based on private valuations and whether comparisons use similar strategies, reporting dates and maturity.
