Research paths
Fund selection
Start with mandate fit, manager evidence, fees, liquidity and open diligence questions. Rupeia does not label a manager best without a complete, dated comparison methodology.
Read the diligence framework →Returns and fund data
Fund IRR, DPI, TVPI and portfolio valuations answer different questions. Vintage, realised distributions and net-versus-gross reporting must be comparable before performance is ranked.
Explore GP diligence and metrics →Private-market transactions
Secondary deals, continuation funds, co-investments and unlisted shares require transaction-level review. They should not be treated as interchangeable with a diversified AIF commitment.
Understand AIF structures →Investor questions
Start with the role the allocation must play, the acceptable illiquidity and loss range, and the relevant AIF category. Then compare managers on strategy fit, team attribution, portfolio construction, realised evidence, fees, governance and the unanswered diligence questions in the fund documents.
Compare managers within the same strategy and a similar vintage. Review who produced the track record, how deals were sourced, how capital was paced, how losses were handled, what was realised in cash and which claims remain manager-reported or unavailable.
Request fund- and vintage-specific reporting that identifies the measurement date, net or gross basis, realised distributions, remaining portfolio value and the valuation policy. Reconcile headline IRR with DPI, TVPI or cash-yield evidence and the relevant audited or administrator-supported documents.
Review the manager commitment, fee and carry structure, hurdle and catch-up, key-person terms, conflicts, continuation or cross-fund transactions, allocation policy and whether incentives reward durable investor outcomes rather than capital deployment alone.
Compare fees on the same base and over the full fund life. Check whether management fees apply to committed or invested capital, how they step down, and how carry, hurdle, catch-up, fund expenses and taxes affect the net investor outcome.
